Should You Switch to Using E Cigarettes?

If you want to quit smoking and have found it to be quite a struggle in your life, you should definitely look into switching to an electronic cigarette to give you an advantage in kicking the habit. Also known as an E cigarette or E cig, they provide a lot of advantages for an individual when compared side by side with using normal tobacco cigarettes.

One of the best things about E cigarettes is that they only contain a fraction of the nicotine that is found in regular cigarettes. They also don’t have the other 2000 harmful chemicals in them, which is a huge health benefit! With the E cigarette, over time, a smoker can adjust and lower the level of nicotine they take in and use different filters that can help them to gradually reduce their nicotine dependence and quit smoking for good!

Another great advantage with E cigarettes is that you are able to use them in non-smoking places and areas where you normally wouldn’t be able to smoke regular cigarettes. You will be able to freely enjoy them in restaurants and bars without bothering others around you or worrying about the effects of your second hand smoke on them either. Also, electronic cigarettes don’t emit the strong, awful odor that regular tobacco cigarettes do. Therefore you won’t be making your clothes, curtains, or upholstery have that awful tobacco stench as well.

Additionally, the E cigarette even looks, tastes and feels just like a regular cigarette. However, instead of producing smoke, it’s a vapor that the user inhales. Also, It gives a dose of nicotine that is a whole lot safer and better for you than smoking a regular cigarette does. So, go get yourself an E cigarette today and start down the path to quit smoking and having a longer, healthier and much happier life!

Teaching Children Healthy Money Habits

People’s ancestors from just a hundred years ago would barely recognize today’s lifestyle, with all the technology, gadgets, and things people accumulate. While life today is in many ways easier than it was for a person’s great-great grandparents, convenience comes at a price. For some people, the price is more than they can afford to pay.

Starting in 2007, the financial health of the United States deteriorated. More people foreclosed on their homes than in the previous years. Several of these families had to file bankruptcy. For them, seeking credit counseling is a part of the bankruptcy process. Some circumstances are beyond a person’s control, but ultimately financial health is in one’s own hands. Everyday decisions to buy or not to buy will make or break personal debt and credit scores, as well as affect quality of life.

Parents have the responsibility to teach their children how to manage personal finances. They can do this by setting a good example, because children often mimic their parents’ spending patterns and behaviors. It’s a good idea for parents to examine their own relationship with money and determine whether their behavior reflects what they want their children to learn. Here are a just a few considerations:

Is saving money made a priority over spending? Saving shows kids that their parents value being prepared for the future.

How organized is the family bill payer? Keeping bills and financial documents in one place and reviewing them frequently conveys a sense of control.

Does money cause household conflict? Children can sense tension, and the subject of money can become something to fear and avoid.

How involved are family members in making financial decisions? Take advantage of teachable moments by letting kids help make decisions that affect them.

Simply being aware that their habits are shaping how future generations interact with money can help parents improve their own financial health.

Is There Such A Thing As Too Clean?

Samuel Slater (1768 – 1835) popularly called &...
Image via Wikipedia

In millennia past, there have been all kinds of plagues and pestilence. Mortality rates for human beings were shockingly high by today’s standards. Life expectancy throughout most of history was half of what it is in the modern world within the first world nations. There obviously were many factors in play but what were the most common denominators across the board? Sanitation and the cleanliness of available water were big influences in determining how disease flourished or dwindled throughout a society.

Methods like fermentation were groundbreaking in making hydration available. Particularly in lands that were not always privy to consistent moisture, storing water was essential for survival. But water can easily become dangerously contaminated when not stored properly and in ancient times, knowing how to store it properly was not information that was available. Beer, mead, wine, and other types of alcoholic beverages were made by fermenting sugars derived from grains or fruits and were essential to the survival of some societies, as they had a much longer shelf life than improperly stored water.

Waste management was a major issue as well. During the Industrial Revolution in America, there was much wealth and commerce in the epicenter of American culture at the time, New York City. Because of the massive population growth at the time from immigration, many shoddy tenements popped up with people crammed in from wall to wall. Without any proper system for waste disposal, disease rates skyrocketed and mortality rates went through the barely constructed roofs. When a proper sanitation system was instilled, the disease rates drastically dropped. Obviously, cleanliness was a major issue in preventing illness.

Many people, however, are arguing that we have taken it to an extreme today. Most people know that washing hands after using restroom facilities, before eating and preparing food, and whenever contact with an ill person has taken place increases one’s chances of remaining healthy. But with the rampant use of hand sanitizers by some, the argument is that our immune systems are not getting enough exposure to bacteria to fight infection. Slightly relaxing their standards may sustain optimum health.

What’s in my Prescription?

Being a prescription savvy consumer is a very important part of your overall health care. Understanding the type of medication you are prescribed, how it works and what possible side effects you can expect will empower you and make you better able to be your own advocate when it comes to your care. With so many different medicines on the market today, it is impossible for one person to know everything about every drug. Your pharmacist and an Rx drug list are both great resources to use as you research medications.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Pharmacist
When it comes to your prescription, there is probably no one more knowledgeable than your pharmacist. After six or more years of specific college training, a pharmacist probably knows more about your medicine than your doctor. Develop a good relationship with your pharmacist and ask questions; they love to help. Try to use the same pharmacy for all of your medicines. Each pharmacy keeps track of the prescriptions you fill. They automatically check for harmful interactions and will advise you concerning when and how to take your prescription.

Rx Drug Lists Clear up Confusion
An online RX drug list is a very handy tool. Browse these informational data banks on the Internet in the comfort of your own home. The prescription databases are usually organized alphabetically. Some also list drugs by category such as the condition being treated, the generic form, and drugs most frequently prescribed. Once you locate the particular drug you are researching, grab a piece of paper and start taking notes. The Rx drug list will include information such as what the drug is normally used for, what to expect when taking the drug, and things you might want to discuss with your doctor before you begin taking the drug. It will also list common side effects.

Getting Prescriptions for Less

Drug companies use direct-to-prescriber advert...
Image via Wikipedia

Millions of Americans rely on prescription drugs to keep their bodies healthy and well. The cost of prescription medications has gone through the roof lately, and many suspect it will continue to climb. Some manufacturers have raised medication costs to offset lost income due to the recession. While it seems a vicious cycle, there is light at the end of the tunnel. By following a few pointers, you can get the prescriptions you need for free or for a much lower price.

At your next doctor’s visit, ask for free samples of your current and any new medications. When your doctor writes a prescription, ask him to allow for a generic medication in place of a name-brand one. Often times, generic products will cost you considerably less and work just as well. Some physicians and clinics have financial assistance programs to help you obtain the medications you need.

Many drug manufacturers offer programs to help patients who were laid off or who don’t have medical insurance with free prescriptions for up to a year. Pfizer offers some of its most commonly prescribed medications like Lipitor, Lyrica, Viagra, and Celebrex on its program. You must apply for the programs, and the company may ask for proof of employment termination, insurance availability, or income, dependent upon which business you work with. Manufacturer programs don’t usually apply to new prescriptions and are no longer in effect if you start getting health insurance coverage.

Some retailers offer a large amount of generic drugs for a very low amount. You can find prescriptions as low as $4. Check with your local pharmacies, even locally-owned, smaller pharmacies, as they may be competing with national retail programs, reducing the cost of some medications. When you do a little extra work, you can get the medications you need without breaking the bank.

Clearing Your Credit Report

When you are getting mortgage rate quotes, one of the biggest things that will factor into the quote you get is your credit score. It doesn’t matter to banks if you are an honest hard working person. In today’s world that isn’t enough. Your credit report has to be good.

If you currently struggle with bad credit, know that you are not alone. Millions of people struggle with bad credit. Poor credit can affect your ability to purchase a home. If you need to clear up your credit quickly, there are ways to do it.

First thing you need to do is track down your credit report. This can be done through a variety of ways online. There you can see what is being reported about your credit. One of the things people don’t always realize is that there is often false information on your report. It happens a lot and people don’t do what is necessary to clear it up.

If you find that there is false information on your report, then what you need to do is write a letter to whichever of the three major credit bureaus is reporting the false information. Write the letter and include a copy of your drivers license and your social security card so they can verify your identity.

The credit bureaus will contact the places reporting the false information and those companies will have 30 days from that time to prove that the information is correct. If they cannot, it will be taken off your record.

Understand that this process is not an overnight fix. It could take a few months for it to be cleared from your record, but the result of that will be a credit report you can feel good about when heading to purchase a new home.

Jewish Silversmiths: History and Today

Hasidism is known in secular Jewish culture an...
Image via Wikipedia

Today, the price of silver plays is integral to Judaic law. The lowest amount that can be tried at Beth din – Jewish court – is 1/8 of a gram of silver at market price. However, silver has had a long and entwined history with Jewish culture that reaches far beyond measure.

A Pre-Historical Tradition

Many artifacts, such as utensils, ornaments and even clothing are found to have contained silver. During pre-historical times, jewelry was also predominantly made from silver goods. Religious artifacts at the time were generally made out of silver because of its malleable quality and its relative durability. Accordingly, silversmithing was a boon industry at the time.

The Middle to Dark Ages: Craftsmanship Spreads Across the Continent

During the 5th Century, Jewish slaves were brought to Europe, bringing with them their expertise as silversmiths. In fact, Jewish silversmiths are recorded to have been the original minters of currency during the 6th Century. During the Middle Ages, Jewish culture expanded their traditions out east toward Poland. During these times, Jewish silversmiths were revered. However, as the Dark Ages followed, so did oppressive laws. Jewish silversmiths were forbidden through much of these times. Despite these laws, it has been found that because the quality of Jewish made silver was so high, many of them continue to work in secret. In fact, historians have found that the Catholic Church, responsible for some of these laws itself, hired Jewish silversmiths throughout that era for their own religious artifacts.

These oppressive laws continued into the Seventeenth Century. Despite the Church using Jewish silversmiths, non-Jews constructed the majority of Jewish religious artifacts. Accordingly, many of those artifacts from that era contain mistakes in their Hebrew inscriptions. Thankfully, these laws have been long abolished today. Silversmiths continue to make Kiddush cups, Hanukkah lamps and other traditional objects out of silver; however, today, the inscriptions are accurate and legible.

Relationships Lead to Greater Well-Being

Many leading experts are in agreement that having a significant other can improve the quality of your life. People who are married report as a whole, that despite the stressors that relationships can bring, they still have higher levels of happiness than those who are not in long term, committed relationships. Being in a relationship is usually good for you but because it can be stressful, it can be a bit like taking three steps forward and falling one step back. If you can improve the health of your relationship, you can eliminate the stressors that many people experience with their loved ones, thus reaping a broader spectrum of benefits.

When having an argument with one another, many people in couples resort to ad hominem or personal attacks towards their partner rather than providing constructive input. Saying, “You’re an idiot!” rather than, “I disagree with your decision for this reason . . . .” puts the other person on the defense, making them more concerned about self protection and focusing on barbs they can hurl at you. If you want to be truly heard, attacking the other person will ensure that your complaints will not be heard at all, much less understood and sympathized with. Most people get angry when they experience feelings of frustration, pain, or sadness that they cannot immediately process. Making your partner angry escalates the argument without resolving anything and creates a much more stressful situation. This simple awareness alone can transform many stressful relationships into happier, more understanding ones.

Another issue that many couples struggle with is the need to be right or to win. Often, when an argument is taking place, the person who is loudest and most intimidating (with words, volume, or threatening physical presence) “wins” the argument, but in such situations, both people lose. Bullying someone into concession does not create feelings of harmony and closeness and is as such, detrimental to the health of a relationship. Finding ways to validate both members (which is almost always possible with a little practice), makes both people feel valued and loved, which strengthens their bond.

Miraculous Breast Milk

Breast milk is a complex, perfectly structured food designed to feed babies exactly what nutrients they need at the right time. Modern science is only just beginning to understand its complexity. Even premature babies who are breastfed from their mothers receive a completely different type of formulation that full term infants.

Babies who breastfeed are not only healthier as babies during the time that they are nursing and receiving vital immunity information from the mother’s body, but research has shown time and again that people who benefited from breastfeeding as babies were much less likely to be sick throughout their lives. They report fewer incidences of colds and cases of influenza. They also did not get nearly the same number of ear infections as a child, thus avoiding the complications that can persist throughout life. People who were breastfed are also less likely to experience cancers.

In fact, new studies on methods of cancer treatment are looking into using breast milk as a treatment itself. As a living tissue much like blood (and being packed full of healing white blood cells itself), scientists are hypothesizing that many healing properties are waiting to be discovered in breast milk. They have already discovered that breast milk contains vitalizing stem cells, the cells from which all physical bodily components are derived. All body parts begin in utero as stem cells and a stem cell can become an eardrum, a fingernail, an eye, or a liver. With the new understanding that stem cells are available in breast milk, they may be able to be harvested and used to grow or regenerate bodily functions that are not working properly. In the near future, we may be able to grow a new heart for someone needing a transplant or a pancreas for diabetics. Even things like baldness could potentially be treated (and imagine the market for cosmetic procedures alone when you can grow new tissue from your own stem cells). The scientific and medical possibilities are endless and breast milk has the potential of playing a dramatic role in the amazing unfolding that could take place.

Eat Your Way Happy

Eating a pan full of brownies will probably make you feel much worse after the fact, but if you have been feeling more down in the dumps and sluggish lately, changing up your diet could make a significant difference. There are many different vitamins, minerals, nutrients, and chemicals in foods that can play a big role in how good you feel and getting a different balance of those foods can change your life.

With the high protein, low carbohydrate fads of the last several years, many people’s moods took a huge dive with their decrease in carbs. While simple carbohydrates like foods made with enriched flour and sugar can give you a quick, jittery boost, they come with a faster crash soon afterwards, making you feel even worse than before you went scrounging for that pick me up. Eating more nutrient dense carbohydrates (like whole grain breads and pastas) in conjunction with lean proteins (especially those high in mood boosting tryptophan like turkey and dairy products), you can get a solid spike in not only mood, but energy that will carry you over for many hours.

Many people know that omega fatty acids are good for you and they may even know that they are good for your heart health, but most people do not know that omega 3 fatty acids high in DHA can make you feel significantly more happy. Countries with diets high in fish have reported overall levels of depression and sadness that are much lower than the rest of the world. Sardines, anchovies, and salmon are good for starters but there are also vegan sources as well, such as leafy, dark green vegetables, and flax seeds.

If you tend to feel a slump in the afternoon, try a banana. Bananas are an amazing super food loaded with mood and energy raising B vitamins as well as the aforementioned tryptophan. It is a complex carbohydrate so you will get that sugar boost but with fiber and vitamins that will keep your mood high. With bananas, you won’t suffer the same crash that your fickle candy bar delivers.
